One-on-One Coaching for Women Entreprenuers in Lebanon

The field has been narrowed down from 42 to 20 women, who we are working closely with through their mentoring sessions. For the months of September and October, the Women Entrepreneurs in Lebanon engaged in one-on-one coaching sessions with their trainers at the BIAT center in Tripoli. After their intensive 4-day training at BIAT, these women now need the focus and determination of one-on-one sessions to take their ideas to the next level! The coaching sessions enable the women to look at their ideas strategically and with understanding of the challenges that each of their unique business may face, in Continue reading…

Triple Exposure Fall Classes Begin!

This Monday, Triple Exposure welcomed several new and returning students to its art and photography classes. Students met their classmates, introduced themselves, went on a competitive scavenger hunt to photograph all the objects on lists I distributed, reviewed concepts learned in previous classes, and took photographs to be put in a “time capsule” and returned to them only at the end of the semester. Like other TYO programs, Triple Exposure students come from all over Nablus, including the city’s four refugee camps: Balata, New Askar, Old Askar, and Al Ein. Opportunities for creative and emotional expression are often limited in Continue reading…

The Enthusiastic Return of Volunteers

With the start of TYO’s Core Child and Triple Exposure programs this week, our Youth Service Learning (YSL) Program has also hit the ground running. Recruiting university students from various local universities, including An-Najah University in Nablus, we welcomed more than 80 new and returning faces to our center. TYO understands the significance the YSL program is to its own programming and classes, but also, its importance to the youth in the city of Nablus. In the West Bank, an estimated 61 percent of its nearly two million residents are under the age of 24 (UNRWA). Employment prospects for 15 to 24 year Continue reading…

We’re extending our campaign for $25k until October 8, giving you just 2 more weeks to get involved!  Help us cross our fundraising finish line on the same day that Usama completes his 250 km/156 mile race. Learning through Play as TYO’s Core Child Program Begins

Today, with grins from ear to ear, children leaped off of the buses and raced into our TYO-Nablus center for their first day of class.  For many of these 3-5 year olds, this 12-week program will be their first school-like experience.  They come from the most disadvantaged neighborhoods and refugee camps in Nablus, where they often suffer from severe poverty, cramped living conditions, hunger, verbal or physical abuse, and neglect.  In spite of these obstacles, these children are filled to the brim with potential.  Currently in their most sensitive period of growth, these children will develop basic cognitive, social, Continue reading…
